Rich, intense colour.
Inktense pencils give you really rich, intense colour both dry and wet. Like traditional watercolour pencils, a wet brush transforms them, but what is unique about these pencils is that the pigments that the water is activating are ink based rather than watercolour based. This means that the colours are particularly vibrant, and it also means that when dry, the layer of colour you have painted is waterproof.
This means that you can build up layers of colours and with stamps, I have found that I can colour my main image with pencils, paint over it with a waterbrush, then when it is dry, I can quickly create a pale wash background without it lifting the colour from my main painted image. This is something you cannot do with normal watercolours as the wash would reactivate the pigments and smear the colours.
Inktense can also be used to create vibrant colourwash backgrounds, though once water has been added, the ink quickly soaks into the cardstock or paper you are using, and once soaked in, you cannot move the pigment around with water in the same way you can with watercolour pencils.
